| | Cabbage Soup Diet | By Abby Morrison, HBA | The Cabbage Soup diet is a quick and unsafe method of weight loss, which allows you to eat as much cabbage soup and water as you like but not much else. It is only effective for temporarily losing a few pounds and is by no means a long-term nutrition plan, nor does it claim to be. What are the guiding principles of the Cabbage Soup Diet? The Cabbage Soup Diet is guided by the principle of negative calories: it encourages you to eat foods that will burn more calories than they are worth. The Cabbage Soup Diet's power meal (and only meal) is, naturally, a cabbage soup containing onions, peppers, tomatoes, carrots, cabbage, V8 juice and water. You are allowed to eat as much of this soup as you can stomach for seven days along with fruit (day 1), vegetables (day 2), bananas (day 4), beef (day 5) and brown rice (day 7).

How fast can you lose weight using the Cabbage Soup Diet? The Cabbage Soup Diet purports that you can drop anywhere from 5 to 50 pounds within one week. As soon as you go off the diet and start to eat regular foods again you can expect that much weight and more to pile right back on.
Is the Cabbage Soup Diet easy to follow? It is easy in the sense that you do not have to spend a lot of time cooking or preparing fancy, difficult meals. It is extremely hard to follow in that it is so restrictive; you can pretty much only eat cabbage soup, fruits and vegetables. You could not eat anything at a restaurant or a friend's house. That being said, if you are the kind of person that does not mind bland food day after day you might be able to pull this off for a little while.
What are some drawbacks to following the Cabbage Soup Diet? The Cabbage Soup Diet is most definitely more bad than good, as you cannot consume nearly enough calories nor get the necessary nutrients for a healthy immune system. There have been reports of light-headedness by people following this diet and it is not a recommended lifestyle diet. People following this diet for a week or even more will most likely gain all the weight back they had lost and more when they resume their usual nutrition habits.
How much does the Cabbage Soup Diet cost?
There is no fee to pay or recipe book to buy if you choose to follow the Cabbage Soup Diet. The only costs are those of the ingredients in the cabbage soup and the limited other foods you are able to consume.
Conclusion
This diet focuses on what to do to quickly lose weight and is not suitable for those looking to get in shape and stay that way. The Cabbage Soup Diet does not provide any nutrition or fitness tips. Most diets are usually followed by a relapse and thus ALL diet changes MUST accompany a fitness routine to increase metabolism and lean muscle mass. As stated above, the Cabbage Soup Diet is not recommended.
